I recently wrote about Anthropic and SpaceX, but OpenAI is the name everyone wants to know about. OpenAI is privately held, its shares do not trade on any exchange, and the secondary market is gated to qualified buyers. So unless you can wire eight figures into a tender offer, your only realistic on-ramp is to find a fund that already owns it. I thought I'd put together a similar breakdown of the funds that own OpenAI in their portfolios.
I pulled the latest data from every fund family and found 66 fund vehicles with combined OpenAI exposure of roughly $3.79 billion as of the Q1 2026 reporting period. The list spans Capital Group, T. Rowe Price, Fidelity, Coatue, Destiny Tech100, ARK, BlackRock, JPMorgan, New York Life, and Franklin Templeton.
Publicly Traded Vehicles With OpenAI Exposure
Most of the funds on this list are mutual funds, interval funds, or institutional sleeves that a retail investor either cannot access or cannot trade intraday. As far as I know, only three publicly traded vehicles in the entire dataset hold OpenAI shares.

A few things worth noting about each:
- DXYZ is the most accessible OpenAI proxy on the market today. It is a closed-end fund listed on the NYSE that you can buy in any brokerage account during regular hours, and OpenAI is one of the larger positions in its portfolio (held indirectly through two SPVs: Goanna Capital 26E LLC and DXYZ OAI I LLC). DXYZ also historically trades at a wide premium or discount to its stated NAV — sometimes 100%+ — so the share price tracks investor sentiment about private tech exposure more than the underlying marks on any individual name.
- ARKVX is an interval fund priced on NASDAQ but redeemable only on quarterly windows with hard caps — you cannot exit intraday like an ETF. OpenAI is now 2.85% of fund assets, up materially as ARK has continued to add through secondary tenders. Note: ARKVX is only available on certain platforms.
- TTEQ is the only open-end ETF on the entire list, but the position is tiny in absolute terms ($0.8M). It still represents 0.58% of the fund — a meaningful sleeve for an ETF — but you are buying OpenAI alongside a full diversified tech book.

- Capital Group's Growth Fund of America (AGTHX) holds the single largest OpenAI position — $916.8M across 1.40M shares spread across Class A common and Series A-2 convertible preferred.
- Capital Group leads by dollar exposure ($1.29B across just 3 funds), but T. Rowe Price is the real OpenAI house by fund count — 19 separate T. Rowe vehicles report exposure (vs. only 5 for Anthropic in the prior post).
- Fidelity is third at $1.09B across 33 funds — still the broadest distribution of any sponsor, but a clear step behind Capital Group and T. Rowe Price on dollar value.
- Destiny Tech100 Inc. (NYSE: DXYZ) — the only NYSE-listed CEF with material exposure — has by far the most concentrated retail-accessible OpenAI bet at 5.71% of NAV ($42.7M position).
- Coatue Innovative Strategies Fund holds $160.5M / 3.33% of AUM in OpenAI Global, LLC units (the operating-company-level interest, not the new PBC preferred) — the most concentrated bet among institutional interval funds.

- OpenAI exposure appears under many different issuer strings across filers: "OPENAI GROUP PBC" (the new Public Benefit Corporation re-org), "OPENAI GROUP PCB CLASS A COMMON PP / AESTAS LLC dba OPENAI LLC", "OpenAI Group PBC SER C CVT PFD PP", "OpenAI Group PCB Series A-3 CVT", "OPENAI GLOBAL, LLC", and Destiny Tech100's two SPV wrappers ("Goanna Capital 26E LLC" + "DXYZ OAI I LLC"). All are aggregated as OpenAI exposure per fund.
- Most funds now hold OpenAI across multiple share classes simultaneously (Class A common, Series A-2 preferred, Series A-3 preferred, Series C preferred). Position values shown are summed across all share classes held by each fund.
